One key factor is carbon content—too much can cause hard, burned dross that is difficult to remove. By sourcing low-carbon A36 steel (0.19% or less) from mini-mills, fabricators can achieve more consistent cuts with fewer defects. Additionally, stretcher-leveled steel improves flatness, which is critical for maintaining a steady standoff distance between the laser nozzle and the material. This reduces the risk of cut parts bowing or crashing into the cutting head.
